We love everything that pops! Pop-up books, pop-art, even pop-tarts! Our latest favorite pop-up love: The Pond. The guys at Pure Blond have restored a 178 year-old heritage-listed cottage in Darlinghurst into a temporary pop-up bar and restaurant known as "The Pond". Why do we love this place? They claim it’s a ‘Breath of fresh air in the world of same same,’ and we couldn’t agree more. Ditch smoky bars for the silly season and treat someone lovely to a shandy in the sunshine. With floors created from recycled office carpet, staff decked in organic cotton wear and furniture carved from reclaimed timbers, you’ll be proud to call this your new hang out. However, like most good things, this won’t last---get there before it ‘pops!’

We tried this place on Friday 4th December and I must say we weren’t impressed-they told us we couldn’t book for groups under 8, so we found a unreserved table for two, sat down, ate entrees and were about to order mains when we were informed that the table was ‘booked’ (and I’m like, do you mean for us? As we tried to book via email) and they said no, for another couple that were waiting. So we left-very, very unimpressed.
The courtyard was also closed with no notice and the bar was very busy. Some of the crowd were on the rough / rude side (trying to pick me up even though I was with my boyfriend), which was unexpected given it was only 6pm!
This place is not worth the effort.
